On the surface it is the same thing but man, the difference in build quality from the vintage Made in USA models to the new Made in China models is stark.

He actually has two of these - one for home and one for the office - and they're both going strong after 30 years or more. My dad has one of these from 1982 that he still uses on a regular basis - he says he's had to change the battery 2-3 times and that's it.
